What is the leader’s role? Leaders manage, train, mentor and coach.
Managing: making sure people do what they know how to do
Training: teaching people to do what they don’t know how to do
Mentoring: someone who is really good at doing something shows others how to do it
Coaching is none of these – it is helping to identify the skills and capabilities that are within the person and enabling them to use them to the best of their ability.
At ITS, there are a variety of ways to be coached.
- To maximize your learning after attending a workshop, we offer individual and group coaching. Coaching can make an incredible difference as you apply your new leadership skills, to identify areas for continued growth and to maximize your natural talents.
- To respond to the need for performance management – to maximize good work practices and eradicate undesirable behaviours
- To support the executive process, facilitating clarity of vision, developing structure and process and creating communication strategies
Characteristic of all these coaching methods is a strong belief in the individual being coached and their ability to achieve their goals.
ALL of these methods are useful.
